I was lucky enough to get my hands on an advanced copy of this book and I have to say it surprised me. I expected sci-fi, war and violence. What I got was a story of frightened lonely girl on her journey to womanhood as she comes to terms with the enormity of the task laid out before her. Don’t worry, there is still plenty of the former. It’s a real pager turner with an exciting plot and rich, likeable characters. I can’t wait for book 2!

The author is a friend of a colleague who knows I love history. What I’m not into at all is Sci-fi. That really doesn’t matter, don’t get me wrong, sci-fi folks will get their fix I’m sure, but what I’m saying is that it wasn’t a barrier to my enjoyment of the book. History is my thing and that’s what I got; rich characters and well researched history with an exciting plot!
