In Ireland, where her great-grandmother owns a castle, Claire learns that she is the descendant of a magical race that once ruled ancient Γire. And like her ancestor Gealala, a 13th-century ruler known as the Shining Swan, Claire possesses an ability to summon birds. In fact, four raptors come unbidden to assist her in fulfilling a hereditary destiny to protect endangered waders. Irish curlews, nearly extinct, have chosen to nest on the shores of Lough Gur, the Enchanted Lake. To save their threatened habitat, Claire relies on a host of friends, including a neighbor's eight-year-old foster child and expert fairy hunter. Together they decipher long-hidden clues to revive the mystical power of a mythical past.
"The eagle said, "Before us, your enemies will fly." The hawk said, "Use us as your standard." The owl said, "All against you will fear our ferocity." (...) "With us, you will prevail."Β In this last installment of the trilogy Of the Wing, Claire goes to Ireland to meet her grandmother and great-grandmother. There is a lot of tension between generations. A wonder of a Trilogy, and book 3 left me satisfied, but wanting more nonetheless.I had no idea what I was in for when I picked up the 1st book in the series, and to 2nd, and on my surprise I could not put down the book, and had to continue on to this, the 3rd, and final book. Butler is a wonder of a writer. Her characters, Claire, Victor, and Jerry are living, breathing people one feels for, and in this book, the introduction of Mamo, and Oak to the series - well, brings a whole new dimension.
It was a fairly good book. It is a young adult book and o wanted to read it before I let my young adults read it.Well it was just ok. I hope my young adults like it better then me.
