According to the Bible, the stakes could not be greater, Heaven or Hell. Jesus stated, in Matthew 7:13-14, that the gate to Hell is wide, but the gate to Heaven is narrow and the way to Heaven is difficult. However, the doctrines of the Prosperity Gospel, the Secret Rapture and Once Saved Always Saved paint a different picture. These doctrines tell us that God wants all Christians to be rich; that God will not allow Christians to suffer in the Great Tribulation; that even if you were not ready when Jesus returns to rapture His Church, you will receive a second chance to be saved later; and, that Christians can never be lost regardless of how they live, if they said a prayer asking Jesus into their hearts many years earlier.Per these seeker sensitive doctrines, Jesus apparently was wrong about the gate to Heaven being narrow and about the way to Heaven being difficult, because these doctrines present a pathway to heaven filled with self-pampering, second chances, freedom from persecution and suffering, and assurance of salvation to everyone who said one prayer earlier in their lives, no matter how sinfully and wickedly they live the rest of their lives following that prayer. After reading this book, your view of these doctrines will be changed forever.
Few Good Points, No ReferencesThe author makes a few good points in every section, but none of his statements or claims are backed by solid references. In the Prosperity Gospel section, he makes some claims regarding those who preaches it and then says to βGoogle itβ to see if itβs true. As you know, any bozo can cut and paste clips, take words out of context and make a YouTube video, yet, this is what he wants us to do to βverifyβ his claims. Iβm against the Prosperity Pimps as well, but in all
Mr. Bechthold does not cut cheats, liars, con men (and women) even the tiniest bit of slack. That's probably why I enjoyed this book. He pulls no punches. I'm a cradle Catholic, but I was not offended in the least by what he had to say and how he conveyed the truth of true Christianity. If you a member of one of the prosperity or celebrations sects, you will be mightily offended. I'm glad I read this book.
The study of the scriptures has been my life for over 40 years as well. I agree with the interpretations of scripture in this book. I have been in opposition to the health and wealth gospel for all of that time. I believe in the eternal security of the true believer that remains faithful to the Lord's teachings. Amen, brother. Keep preaching the truth.
