Incredibly entertaining, unlikely romantic adventure.Times are changing. Women are organizing. Suffrage and prohibition are the topics on everyone’s lips. The temperance movement is devastating saloonkeeper Emmett Boyd’s life: tearing his family apart, slowly destroying his business. When temperance mavens block the entrance to his establishment one spring evening, he is less than amused.Schoolteacher Nettie Gordon is an independent, modern woman who is living her dream; a modest life by most standards. Her bicycle is her pride and joy. Her favorite pursuits are embroidery and tending houseplants while avoiding men at all costs.Could Emmett Boyd change Nettie’s opinion of men forever? One thing seems clear. Miss Gordon wants no part of the “beast behind the bar” nor any of his crazy family.Drive through the streets of Los Angeles in Emmett’s brand-new Buick. Visit Abbot Kinney’s Venice by the Sea. See a film in California’s first movie theater—located in a tent on Spring Street. And skate at one of the new roller rinks popping up on every street corner. This one is right up there with my favorite books of all time.A page turner.A must read for California history buffs and romance novel enthusiasts.Couldn't put it down!Enjoy the drama and the fun of Catching Nettie Gordon. New author for me.I've had this book for a while, but wasn't impressed enough to read it. Wondering why I even was keeping it. I finally I decided to read it. Oh, my gosh!!! I am so happy I didn't delete this book!!! It's marvellous!!! At first, I thought it was to be as I expected. A few pages more and I was memorized by the story and the characters!! It's humorous, serious, sad (very little). Every emotion you can feel while reading. Did I mention humongous?? It's not the laugh out loud humour
