The Bad Luck Curse (The Kafka Legacy Book 1)

OK - well, this is probably a lot better for the intended audience...I got sucked in by the wereparakeet! -and the wereparakeet IS a cute idea, but the book is just too 4th grade for me: A weird combination of repetition, dragging, and suddenly jumping to action followed by mild adult alarm then back to normal! Lather, rinse, repeat! Abandoned at 35% - but would recommend it for a grade school read. If I didn't have better, more age appropriate stuff waiting, I would likely have finished. 3 for

The plot has plenty of potential, but the book felt very stiff and stilted. The character dialogues were stiff and unnatural, and a lot of unnecessary little details were put in while more important ones seemed entirely lacking, leaving the book with a "hollow" feeling. With a really good editing, I think the book could have been excellent; the interesting plot was the only thing that kept me reading until the end.
