Fade to Gray is a very short essay and one of the main reasons why the title is free for your enjoyment. It is a hilarious account of one woman's attempt to transition to gray as easily and as quickly as possible. From the decision to let Mother Nature be her hair colorist to the final "colorful" outcome, follow the author as she spends many funny and agonizing hours in the hair salon to get a "natural look".This is one coming of (old) age story that will have you crying tears of laughter to the very last page.
Gray is one of my favorite colors. I love gray carpets, walls, pillows, bed linens… To me gray is an elegant color, which enhances the appearance of every object placed close by. Strangely enough this is not the same for gray hair. Gray hair does NOT enhance women’s faces… Having known this for a while I was delighted to read Sherry Molteni’s thoughts to this topic. Just be forewarned, this is a VERY short story. But I liked it. I personally think it's nice when people go with their natural look and it's interesting hearing people's personal stories. This is a topic everyone will have to think about at some point. At 39 I'm already going gray. It gives me a different look. I don't think it looks bad.
This is a charming short story that tackles aging with humor and confidence. A very quick read, you'll have it done before you know it, but a great way to kill the time when waiting for your husband in the Home Depot parking lot.
