If you’re a fan of the Stephen Hunter character Bob Lee Swagger then you should really enjoy this book. The characters are both former Marine Scout Snipers and that is where the similarities end. I went into this book expecting to love the main character so I tried really hard to get behind him but the fact is that the only honorable character in this story is his wife. These are not nice men. While I’m totally behind with the morality of hunting down the bad guys in this case I felt like Nick go
I'm super proud of this book. It's complex and took me nearly 12 years to finish, which I'm not proud to say as an author, but I couldn't be happier with how it turned out. Some books just stump you time-after-time, and you just have to set them aside and eventually have the nerve to go back to them and start fighting with them again. This one nearly won, but in the end, I wrestled it down and I think a lot of people are going to love it.
I wasn't sure I was going to like this one at first, too military, but even though this was the backbone of the story, I really liked the character of Nick Woods and I liked the reporter too. He was more gutsy than I gave him credit for at first. They were a good pair. I also really liked that this story was told by someone in the military who had some of the same issues Nick did. That made it more realistic for me. A good first story Stan!
