When an accident claims the life of her father, she marries an Irish preacher in order to provide for herself and her younger brother. She knows nothing of trail life. Over night Rachel has gone from being the wealthy banker’s daughter to the wife of this poor, Irish preacher named Patrick O’Riley, bound for Oregon in a covered wagon train. All of her experience warns her that she has married beneath herself, but Patrick’s gentle kindness begins teaching her otherwise. She and her new husband and brother are left behind the wagon train when small pox breaks out, along with two other families. Only God can now get them safely to Oregon.
What do you do when the house you've inherited holds a secret the valley has been keeping for years — and the wrong man may already be paying for it?Mira Ashworth arrives at Stonefall Hall with a single trunk, a dead husband's surname she hasn't decided to keep, and no particular plan beyond not going back to Leeds. The estate is hers — crumbling, cold, and full of rooms that feel like other people's lives. The valley is beautiful in the way of things that have been keeping their own counsel for centuries. And the local constable, it turns out, resigned the week before she arrived. She isn't looking for a mystery. But a woman comes to the door with a lantern and grey eyes that have long since stopped having energy for anything except the truth. Her husband has been missing since January. A box buried in the paddock contains documents that could rewrite thirty years of local history. And someone in this valley is very certain that certain things should stay buried.Mira notices things. She always has — quietly, carefully, without announcing it. She stores what she observes and waits for the right moment. It is a skill she has been using in other people's service for thirty-one years. Now, for the first time, what she notices belongs to her.Can she find out what really happened in the paddock before January's wrong is buried for good — and before the woman with the lantern loses the farm her family has worked for a hundred and sixty years?A cozy historical mystery set in the Edwardian Eden Valley — atmospheric, character-driven, and quietly impossible to put down. What the Valley Keeps is Book One of The Stonefall Mysteries. Books Two and Three are available now.

One Day I Woke Up in America begins on a morning many Americans will never forget. On the morning of September 11, 2001, a young production assistant finally walks away from the corporate machine, determined to pursue a life in film and writing. Stepping onto a downtown train, he believes he is finally beginning his real life. By the time he emerges into lower Manhattan, the world he thought he knew is gone forever.Moving between the hours surrounding that devastating day and the two years leading up to it, One Day I Woke Up in America follows a young artist as he abandons the safety of his Long Island upbringing and throws himself into the creative underground of a rapidly changing New York City. Between celebrity production gigs, overnight shoots, cramped apartments, and late nights in pre-gentrified Brooklyn, he chases art, ambition, love, and the possibility of reinventing himself. At the center of that transformation is a woman whose sensuality and fierce intellectualism pull him into an intense relationship that reshapes the way he sees desire, intimacy, and his own future. Together, they move through a city pulsing with energy and possibility just before everything changes forever.Part love letter to a vanished downtown New York, One Day I Woke Up in America is a literary novel about reinvention, ambition, intimacy, memory, and the fleeting innocence of a generation standing unknowingly at the edge of history.

But when even Jesus’s disciples begin to work miracles and cast out demons, Lucifer devises a plan to turn the whole world against him––beginning with his Apostles Peter and Judas.Lucifer wagers that with the death of His only begotten son at the hands of the children of Adam, the Most High will have no choice but to see their true nature, and welcome Lucifer, the once-favored son of heaven, back home. But perhaps, the end game is something Lucifer never saw coming.Ambitious, provocative, and engaging No Sympathy for the Devil makes the oldest story entirely new.

Death Valley is a remote desert area located in eastern California. Situated within the Mojave Desert region, it features the lowest, driest, and hottest locations in all of North America. Badwater, a basin located within the Valley, is the specific point of the lowest elevation, at 282 feet below sea level. This area is only 84 miles east-south-east of Mt. Whitney, the highest point in the contiguous United States, with an elevation of 14,497 feet. One of the most interesting and challenging mysteries of Death Valley is the sliding rocks at 'Racetrack Playa' (a playa is a dry lake bed). These rocks can be found on the floor of the playa with long and distinct trails behind them. Yes, that's right—and no one knows for sure how these rocks move, and no one has ever reported actually seeing them move—but they do move great distances, some of them weighing several hundred pounds! Treasure hunter Rod Florea and tracker/cartographer Mitch Holland are about to confront this mystery—as they go in search of Spotted Elk, a Native American friend (The Secret of Monument Valley), who while on a personal quest has suddenly turned up missing in the far reaches of Death Valley—somewhere within the parched and desolate region known as Racetrack Playa... Are you ready? Hang on tight! The greatest thing about this particular author is that as you turn the pages, you will find yourself right there in the middle of it all—living and breathing the story!

As a basic definition, it may be said that an Ice Age is simply a period of time during which thick ice sheets cover vast areas of land. These sheets have advanced and retreated, at times taking over the entire planet, and conversely disappearing nearly altogether. Glacial ice formed by this regularly occurring process does not sit in a state of inertia, but moves dynamically, reshaping the geological features of the continents. Again, the time frame for glacial movement is far longer than any involving human activity, so close attention must be paid in order to correctly measure and interpret it for the modern day. From about 12,900 to 11,700 before present (BP), near Ice Age conditions returned to the Northern Hemisphere of the planet. It was a sudden shift from the warm temperatures that had prevailed for nearly 2,000 years. This period is referred to by archaeologists, geologists, and earth scientists as the Greenland Stadial, but it is more commonly known as the Younger Dryas. The Younger Dryas marked the end of the last glacial period, the end of the Pleistocene Era, and the beginning of the Holocene Era, which is the current era. It was a period of great change, when climate change happened quite quickly, directly affecting the flora, fauna, and humans of the Northern Hemisphere in the process. The impact on the human populations was perhaps most important because, in some places, it virtually destroyed emerging cultures, while in other places, it might have propelled humans to develop new survival traits and technologies later used to move humanity into the Neolithic era. Although scholars now know quite a bit about the Younger Dryas, many elements of it are still debated. Other aspects serve as a predictor of what humans can expect in the future.Extensive research about the origins and possibly the causes of the Younger Dryas will help modern experts understand more about climate change. The term “climate change” has become somewhat loaded and controversial in many contexts of modern discourse, but the reality is that the Earth’s climate is constantly changing due to a number of factors. Periods of warming and cooling were routine in humanity’s prehistoric past, and they have even been documented in the historical era, well before modern times. Knowledge of the processes leading to the Younger Dryas will not prevent climate change in the future, although it will help modern populations prepare for it better. In-depth research of the Younger Dryas will also help modern scholars learn about how climate change affects human populations. Although the Earth was far less populated during the Younger Dryas, human populations were growing and on the cusp of entering the Neolithic Period in some locations. Understanding how some of these populations reacted to the Younger Dryas will help scholars know more about the transition into the Neolithic Period, sometimes referred to as the “Neolithic Revolution,” and how the survival skills humans learned during the period laid the groundwork for some of the earliest human civilizations. There is, however, still plenty of information about the Younger Dryas that remains unknown or open to debate. Not all scholars agree on the dates of the Younger Dryas or how long it lasted. Even more controversial are the alternate theories about what caused the Younger Dryas and the effect it had on the Northern Hemisphere’s bio-populations. This book examines the background of the Younger Dryas, its effects on bio-populations, and how it contributed to the emergence of the Neolithic Era. Alternative theories will be examined and compared to more standard ideas currently prevailing in academia.

Mutiny, murder and mayhem on the first circumnavigation of the world.

The Line of Demarcation divides the world between Portugal and Spain but no one knows on which side the fabulous Spice Isles lie, least of all the inhabitants. Only one man has the skill, knowledge, and iron will to settle the question: Ferdinand Magellan, who is hated in both Spain and Portugal.
Antonio Pigafetta, former ambassador of the Vatican and a refugee from religious turmoil, casts his lot with a captain set up to fail. He has no idea what he has let himself in for. Mutiny, murder, shipwreck and religious wars are just part of it In the background is the sinister figure of Bishop Fonseca, head of the Casa de Contratacion with power over the ships of the armada and all its people. The bishop's bastard, Juan de Cartagena, covets command of the armada and will stop at nothing to displace Magellan but he underestimates the captain general's iron will and steely determination. Magellan is ruthless in putting down any threats to his authority while confronting his own demons. Not once but three times he stamps out rebellion, which only brings him into submission to the highest authority of all.The fatal flaw in his character is his own downfall.
For Pigafetta, the first circumnavigation of the world is a spiritual journey as well as an unparalleled adventure. At a time when the Spanish Inquisition tortures and murders unbelievers, Pigafetta discovers compassion and questions his own faith. Pigafetta's dilemma is whether the puzzle of how a man as eminent as Pope Leo could be so wicked and how a man as wicked as Magellan could be so noble.

Review by: Rod Fisher This is a great read of Magellan's voyage as seen through the eyes of Pigafetta, his personal assistant. Too often men like Magellan who have made a profound impact on the history and discovery of the world are denigrated by revisionist historians who dwell on their mistakes and weaknesses. But when the world was a mystery it took rare exceptional personalities to lead others into the unknown. Magellan and Columbus had faults but they had a singular unwavering purpose and never faltered in accomplishing it. This account of Magellan's voyage doesn't judge him by our modern cultural standards but places him in the proper context of the 16th century. Well done Mr. Regan.

A TALE OF THE ENDLANDS -- A KINDLE-SINGLE PREVIEW SHORT STORY FROM THE ANTHOLOGY A PRAYER FOR DEAD KINGS AND OTHER TALESCharan moved past her to drop to his knees. He gripped the stinking grate, ignored the heady slime of blood and offal that clung to its corroded bars as he shifted it from practiced memory. A particular twist, a specific positioning that would disengage it from the stones that surrounded them. He felt it come loose, lifted it carefully. Below, the mouth of a narrow well opened up to darkness."The sewers?" Jalina said from behind. "They'll search every sewer and tunnel within a league of the castle to find him."If you insist on telling me things I already know, put them to a tune, at least." With a flourish, Charan stood back, beckoning her toward the open sluice drain. The day's wash water was still slick on the stones, dripping at the edges like a rank rain."You're mad," she said."And a fool, apparently, and proud of both. Get in.""I will not...""You will," Charan said, "whether you climb or whether I drop you." Smiling, he advanced on his sister as one moved on a disobedient dog, saw her flinch despite her own best effort. "This isn't done yet, but when it is, you'll have an empire to rule. The scent of blood is the first thing you need to get used to."In a dark short story of passion and murder (unintended and otherwise), Charan and Jalina are sibling heirs to the throne of empire who share a bond of blood and a grave secret -- both of which threaten to destroy them when their father is killed...A Prayer for Dead Kings and Other Tales -- Available now at Amazon.com
