1969. A neo-Western thriller about faith, violence, and judgment off Route 66 on the Utah–Arizona line.A haunted drifter. A desert prophet. A town on the edge of salvation.Jack rides in with ghosts at his back — a Harley beneath him and a sister lost to the Manson summer. He’s not looking for salvation. Only somewhere to outrun it.But when he crosses paths with Emma — a girl bound to the prophet who rules Plainview — he becomes the first outsider to see what the town refuses to face. Silent wives. Exiled boys. A congregation held together by a faith that looks an awful lot like a gang. And that makes him dangerous. As storms gather over Plainview, devotion, violence, and redemption collide in a pulp-parable showdown. If he walks away, the flock falls deeper under the prophet’s spell. If he stays — he’ll face the cost of belief, blood, and his own past.Because in Plainview, the only difference between gospel or gang is just who’s holding the gun.Fans of Tarantino, McCarthy, and The Twilight Zone will feel right at home in The Last Outrider — a story of redemption waiting at the end of the American road.Ride into Plainview. Just don’t expect to ride back out.
I have to say, this isn’t like anything I’ve ever read before. I wasn’t sure what I was going into with this one, but I thought I’d give it a try anyway. I can honestly say it was actually a pretty good book. I’m not really sure how to describe it though. But it was very well written, and flowed beautifully. Don’t put all your trust in one man. It is proven over and over, that it will cause greater issues for you. A man all alone Jack came to town due to a broken motorcycle as a passer thru. Everyone joked with him, he’d be staying. Wasn’t in his plans. He realized though, what was important, and what was important to him was in that town.
This debut novel is described as a neo-Western thriller and read as a pulp parable. It was a very different genre that I usually read, but it was a great book! There were many male characters in this book, but Jack was the main one. He was a drifter biker, and unable to find where he belonged. The one female character that stood out was Emma, she was young brave and defiant.Jack once belonged to a family, as that fell apart, he found belonging in a biker gang until their direction of brotherhood
