Description

Kidnapped by the English Navy. Rescued by pirates. Now torn between riches—and the life he left behind. When Jacob Penjerrick is press-ganged into the English Navy and treated little better than a slave, he swears he'll return to his beloved Cornwall. But fate has other plans. After a brutal sea battle leaves him stranded, Jacob seizes his chance to escape. Joined by a ragtag band of fellow castaways, he throws his lot in with a pirate crew—men who answer to no king, live by the cutlass, and promise riches beyond his imagination. As the infamous pirate captain spins tales of gold and glory, Jacob must choose: will he keep his vow and find his way home—or surrender to the wild freedom of the Caribbean? Can he trust the men he sails with? And will he live long enough to make that choice at all?A swashbuckling adventure that plunges readers into the savage beauty of the 17th-century Caribbean—where loyalty is scarce, death is close, and freedom always comes at a price.

Dear Reader,If you’re looking for a pirate tale full of fantasy and sea monsters, this might not be the book for you.The Pirate’s Wake is a gritty, grounded story rooted in the brutal reality of the 17th-century Caribbean. It blends real historical figures with fictional characters to bring to life the cutthroat world of piracy—without the gloss or glamour. It’s fast-paced, full of action, and driven by a cast of flawed, compelling characters trying to survive in a time when life was cheap and lo

A wonderfully well written book that successfully combines stories of fictional pirates with the actual pirates that ruled the 17th century Caribbean seas. Martin must have done a huge amount of research and I particularly admire the way that he doesn’t hold up the pacey narrative with history lessons! Brilliantly blending it all together. Fantastic stuff. Can’t wait for the next one.

Shiver me timbers and pass the rum! I enjoyed this yarn about a teen on edge of manhood who has to decide if it is a pirate’s life for him.Nothing too surprising, after all, it is a pirate story so it is replete with all the usual characters, but this story doesn’t whitewash the brutality and desperation of these scallywags.I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily, and crushed it in less tha 2 days!Yoho yoho!
