From award-winning author Kirsten Pursell, Finding Scarlet is a coming-of-middle-age romance about self-discovery, friendship, and starting over after divorce. It is the first novel in The Scarlet's Harlots Trilogy, a series centered on women reinventing themselves later in life. After a thirty-year marriage ends, Scarlet leaves behind the familiar and the expectations shaped by too many Nicholas Sparks novels to reinvent herself on Sullivan's Island, South Carolina.Divorce offers her a rare opportunity: a clean slate, far from the reminders of a life that no longer fits. Seeking connection, Scarlet joins a divorced women's book club and quickly learns that new beginnings come with unexpected complications. When she reveals her past, judgment is swift, forcing her to confront who she wants to become. As her dormant desires awaken, Scarlet finds herself torn between Ben, an attractive younger man who reignites her confidence, and Beau, a self-assured, age-appropriate man who offers the possibility of something deeper. But when the man who nearly broke her resurfaces, Scarlet must decide whether she's truly ready to move forward or still tethered to the past.Set against the charm of Sullivan's Island, Finding Scarlet is an emotionally rich novel about love after divorce, second chances in midlife, and the courage it takes to begin again in your fifties. The Scarlet's Harlots Trilogy - Reading Order:1.Finding Scarlet2.The Unabridged Life of Missy Kinkaid3.Amber Unscripted (June 2, 2026)Finding Scarlet (previously published as The Scarlet D) has received multiple literary honors, including:The BookFest Awards (2025)- 2nd Place, Women's Fiction; 3rd Place, RomanceFirebird Book Awards Winner (2025)- Divorce, Romance, Summer Beach ReadBook Excellence Award Finalist (2025)Literary Titan Book Award Recipient (2024)Reader's Favorite Five Stars (2024)
I have to say, I was hesitant about reading this book since it’s not my preferred genre, but I was wrong! The way the author (Kirsten Pursell) penned Scarlet's story into an utterly passionate life experience was magnificent. Marriage is hard, divorce is even harder when you don’t know who you are anymore. Scarlet has made mistakes, but she has also taken risks; she explores her sexuality; she lets passion back into her life, and it pays off. Scarlet gets a second chance, new town, new friends,
This book surprised me in all the right ways. Finding Scarlett is empowering without being preachy, romantic without being predictable. Scarlet’s voice is so authentic—I felt like I was having coffee with a close friend, hearing her story unfold in real time. The dynamics between her, Ben, and Beau are nuanced and refreshingly mature. And that book club subplot? Brilliant. Kirsten Pursell doesn't shy away from the messy parts of life after divorce, which made the story all the more powerful. I f
Finding Scarlet by Kristen Pursell is a relatable story about a middle aged woman navigating life after divorce, with a book club adding an extra layer of fun. This book grabbed my attention and was an easy, entertaining read. It's a heartwarming tale about finding love again, although some plot points felt a bit far fetched to me. Overall, it's a lighthearted and enjoyable read.Thank you to NetGalley and Indepedant Book Publishing Association for the opportunity to read and review this book.
