I hope the next one comes out soon! Sept 20235 stars - The Crooked Ladder takes us along for an exciting ride as Eldred is faced with the fight for his life Sept 2023goodreads reviews5 stars - I enjoyed A Dragon of Turicum a lot - it had all the elements of a sword and sorcery fantasy that I loved and none of the ones that I disliked. It felt like forever waiting for book 2 to get here, but I dove in as soon as it showed and it was everything from book 1 and more. So much more. Worldbuilding - amazing; character development fantastic; plot? oh so much more involved than expected. I 100% did not see that twist coming. Everything about it was pure magic. This series keeps tossing around how I feel about Eldred. In the first book I disliked his pridefulness, but then found him to undergo a lot of character development and somewhat enjoyed is character, and yet a lot of it felt lost in this book; although I think it was supposed to be like that. Eldred continuously is put in situations to grand for his understanding and is consistently faced with new forms of treatment that he as a prince, is not used to. Eldred's misunderstanding becomes the read
Very odd. Well told story, but...The story arch from the first book is turned on its head in this chaotic ramble. The lead character is inconsistent, at one time open to learning and having empathy for other cultures, then being a demanding, spoiled and vain princeling, incapable of leadership. The writing is good enough to make me follow the tale to the conclusion. Hopefully it will neither take too long nor have as many shocking twists that defy logic.
