Description

The quest for personal glory drag two men into the pits of hell in these novellas. In Cats, retired FBI Special Agent Alston Waters is hired as the training officer for the Lincoln County Sheriff's Department in Montana. He scouts out a remote location with no distractions and no interferences. His search takes him and six deputies to the abandoned Sweet Grass Psychiatric Hospital. The hospital, once a brutal boarding school for Native American children, was closed after a horrific and mysterious fire ten years earlier. The Sheriff warns him of the legend of the Catman who roams the Hills. The sheriff doesn't believe but tells Waters there are many who do. Before the close of the first day Waters begins to believe himself when locked doors and barred windows leave them at the mercy of the myth.Dogs takes place on Maine's Stryker John Island where Trent Aress moves his family to establish a motel. The very independent, very gritty islanders have no use for the amenity and waste little time in telling him so. But the islander he needs to worry about is his neighbor, the belligerent and spiteful Abe Carver. When Carver lets loose his pack of dogs to aggravate the guests, Trent wages war by gathering his own canine army. As the worst winter storm on record whips in, the men release their dogs to do their utmost destruction, but the battle that wages is one neither Carver nor the Aress's are prepared for.***Trigger warnings: Animal harm, death of children***

This one’s not for entertainment This book reminds me of the passers by of a gritty highway accident. You cringe at the sight but drive by slowly still gawking. I truly applaud the author for painting such a vivid picture of the action and characters especially in “Dogs.” “Cats” was a-bit slow moving. I am a dog lover and do wish the dog seller had suffered a long painful death at the paws of his product.
