An enjoyable journey back in time. An easy interesting read, and a very pleasant way to wile away a few hours on a rainy afternoon. Recommended.
I have read this author's previous novel, Sarah's Dream, and this one is equally as good. It is set in the mid-1800's and tells the story of Susannah Quinn who, at the age of twelve, starts work as a scullery maid at the nearby Oakwood Hall.Her life is hard and the author is brilliant at describing the poverty and the hardship of life in this era in English history.We travel through Susannah's life and we can't help but become caught up in the highs and lows she experiences.Aside from a couple o
