When a labourer is murdered on the coast road, the identity of the killers would be beyond the imagination of the townsfolk. That is if the whole sorry incident hadn't been witnessed by a roguish young poacher, who is immediately blamed. The chain of events that follows, open up a world of traitors and spy catchers. As the musket balls start to fly the gritty youngster with nothing to lose is dragged into the whole unseen war. A world where nobody is quite as they seem and trust is an unaffordable luxury. This is the first in a series, which follows Jack as he's plunged into the Napoleonic war and the unseen battles, which determined the fate of so many.
Exciting and enjoyable!!Set in England in 1801, the author deftly tells the story of one young man's struggle for survival in a society divided into the “haves” and the “have-nots”. After his father dies, Jack loses his mother and sister to the poverty that follows. With nothing left to lose, Jack turns to poaching to survive. The threat of invasion by France may end up being a way out of the life Jack now leads, though it will be even more dangerous. There is something for everyone in this fast-
Interesting and enjoyableJust finished the Donland series and was looking for something similar. Downloaded this to pass the time and what a good, if accidental, choice. Reads well, unlike Donland, with a good storyline that looks at an interesting period in British history. Going to carry on to the next, because I want to and not just because it is something to read - best reason!
Suspenseful and enjoyable! If you like historical fiction that's detailed and immersive, don't miss this installment of Rib Bone Jack. Highly recommend!
