(A Jack and Sweetie Mystery) (Volume 1) by Dawn Romeo has been beautifully illustrated by Jolie Hamm, which provides plenty to hold a child’s attention while an adult is reading the story. Jack is easily recognisable as a Bassett Hound, even when wearing a Sherlock Holmes style hat and carrying the magnifying glass he uses for detecting. This time, it is Jack who is accused of a crime:

The Romeos have written a charming picture book. Sally and her basset hound, Jack, are chatting with their neighbor, Mr. Johnson when he reveals that he saw Jack steal his peanut butter sandwich. Sally is aghast and Jack is dismayed. The basset hound goes back to the house to retrieve his detective hat and magnifying glass and begin his investigation to find the culprit.
