Description

Staying at a dark secluded cabin along the Birch River that his uncle owned seemed like the perfect fly fishing weekend getaway for Paul. Strange occurrences began happening. Would it be enough to prevent the unknown history of the cabin from being repeated? (A short story with about 5500 words). Fifth edition - November 2011.

It was ok. I did like the story, but the over attention to detail re:opening and closing the car door, the pliers, the match, etc, was a bit much for me. It might do well to have a bit of editing to take out the slightly too much description. I think it might make the emotional impact of the story stronger. Not bad for a freebie on the Kindle. A decent read. 2.5 stars, rounded up because of the potential and it wasn't horrible.

For a short story, this was actually too long. The plot idea was great and the two paragraphs of the epilogue were fine, but the bulk of the writing was filled with irrelevant and mundane details. For example, it does not further the plot to describe placing one's left hand on the steering wheel while shifting into gear with the right hand. The excess descriptions removed any sense of suspense and urgency from the story. I felt like I was reading a school assignment that had a word-count minimum

This was a decent, mild horror read. It would have kept my attention more if it had complete, grammatically correct sentences and less shallow detail. I would have enjoyed more story of the characters and their emotions.
